About Post Lake Lending

What is Post Lake Lending?

Post Lake Lending is a personal loan matching service. We connect consumers who are looking for personal loans between $500 and $5,000 with a network of licensed third-party lenders. We are not a lender — we do not originate, fund, or service loans. We facilitate the connection and facilitate offer comparison.

Is Post Lake Lending a lender?

No. Post Lake Lending is an online personal loan matching service focused on fast funding and transparent loan offers and referral service. All loans are originated and serviced by independent, licensed lenders in our partner network. The loan agreement you sign is directly between you and the lender — Post Lake Lending is not a party to that contract.

How does Post Lake Lending make money?

We are compensated by lenders when a referral from our platform results in a funded loan. We do not charge fees to borrowers. This compensation structure is standard for loan matching services and is disclosed in our Terms of Service.

Is Post Lake Lending legitimate?

Yes. Post Lake Lending is a legitimate matching service. We operate with full disclosure of our role, require lender partners to be licensed, and maintain a transparent fee and disclosure structure. We've facilitated connections for more than 32,000 borrowers. All lenders in our network are reviewed for licensing and compliance before participating.

Applying

The Application Process

Does checking my rate hurt my credit score?

No. Submitting your information through Post Lake Lending initiates a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect your credit score. A hard inquiry only occurs if you choose to proceed with a specific lender's formal application after reviewing their offer and deciding to accept.

How long does the application take?

The initial form takes most applicants under three minutes. After submission, matching typically completes in 60–90 seconds. Reviewing your offers and completing the lender's formal application adds additional time depending on your pace and the individual lender's requirements.

What information do I need to apply?

For the initial form you'll need your requested loan amount, name, date of birth, address, phone, email, employment status, and monthly income. For the final lender application you'll also need a government-issued ID, Social Security Number, proof of income (pay stubs or bank statements), and checking account details for direct deposit.

Can I apply if I'm self-employed?

Yes. Self-employed applicants can apply. Lenders who accept self-employment income typically request bank statements covering the last 2–3 months or a recent tax return as income verification instead of pay stubs. The offer pool for self-employed borrowers may be narrower, but options are generally available.

Can I apply with unemployment or disability income?

Some lenders in our network accept unemployment benefits, Social Security, disability income, or other government benefits as verifiable income. The availability of offers for these income types varies by lender and state. We encourage you to apply and see what options are available — there's no credit impact to checking.

Can two people apply together (co-borrower)?

Our standard application is for individual borrowers. Some lenders in our network support co-borrower applications, but this is not a feature of the matching form itself. If a co-borrower arrangement is important to you, you can note this when reviewing offers and confirm the option directly with the lender before proceeding.

Rates & Terms

APR, Fees, and Loan Terms

What is the APR range for loans through Post Lake Lending?

APRs for loans available through our network typically range from 5.99% to 35.99%. The APR you receive depends on your credit profile, income, requested loan amount, chosen repayment term, and the specific lender's pricing model. There is no single rate applicable to all borrowers.

Are there any fees for using Post Lake Lending?

No fees are charged to borrowers for using our matching service. Individual lenders may charge origination fees (typically 1%–8% of the loan amount), late payment fees, or other charges that are specific to their loan products. These will be fully disclosed in any offer you receive before you accept.

What loan amounts are available?

You can request between $500 and $5,000. The amount you're ultimately offered may differ from your request depending on lender availability, your creditworthiness, and income. Not all lenders offer every amount in this range.

What are the repayment terms?

Repayment terms offered by lenders in our network typically range from 3 months to 60 months, depending on the loan amount and lender. Shorter terms result in higher monthly payments but lower total interest cost. Longer terms lower your monthly payment but increase total interest paid.

Are there prepayment penalties?

Most lenders in our network do not charge prepayment penalties, meaning you can pay off your loan early without additional fees. However, prepayment policy is lender-specific. Always confirm this in the loan agreement before signing if early payoff is a possibility for you.

Eligibility

Who Qualifies

Can I apply with bad credit?

Yes. Our network includes lenders that work with a range of credit profiles, including borrowers with fair or limited credit history. Having a lower credit score does not disqualify you from applying, though it may affect the rates and amounts available. There is no credit impact to checking your options.

Is there a minimum credit score to apply?

Post Lake Lending itself has no minimum credit score requirement for submitting an application. Individual lenders set their own criteria. Rather than filtering applicants by score upfront, we present your profile to our network and show you what, if any, offers are available.

What states are eligible?

Our network covers borrowers in most US states. However, lender availability varies by state, and some states have regulations that limit or prohibit certain loan types. If you reside in a state where our network has no available lenders, we will inform you of this after your application is submitted.

Do I need to have a bank account to apply?

Yes. The vast majority of lenders in our network require an active checking account for electronic fund disbursement. If you do not have a checking account, you may face limited options. Some lenders may offer alternative disbursement methods — confirm this directly with any lender before proceeding.

Funding & Repayment

Getting Your Money & Paying It Back

How quickly will I receive funds?

After a lender approves your application, funds are typically deposited into your bank account within one to two business days. Some lenders offer same-day or next-business-day funding for applications completed and approved early in the business day. Funding speed is determined by the individual lender and your bank's processing times.

How do I make loan payments?

Loan payments are made directly to your lender — not to Post Lake Lending. Your lender will provide payment instructions, billing dates, and account management tools. Most lenders offer online payment portals and automatic payment enrollment.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Missing a payment may result in late fees, increased interest costs, and a negative impact on your credit score. If you anticipate difficulty making a payment, contact your lender directly before the due date. Most licensed lenders have hardship programs or can discuss temporary modifications. Early communication consistently leads to better outcomes.

Can I pay off my loan early?

Most lenders in our network allow early repayment without penalty. Paying off your loan early reduces the total interest you pay over the loan's life. Confirm the prepayment policy with your specific lender in your loan agreement before making extra payments.

Glossary

Personal Loan Terms You Should Know

Financial terminology can be a barrier to confident borrowing decisions. This glossary defines the key terms you'll encounter when comparing personal loan offers.

Annual Percentage Rate (APR)
The total annualized cost of a loan expressed as a percentage, including both the interest rate and mandatory lender fees. APR is the most reliable single figure for comparing loan costs across different lenders.
Principal
The original loan amount borrowed, not including interest or fees. Interest accrues on the outstanding principal balance, so reducing principal through extra payments directly reduces future interest charges.
Amortization
The process of paying off a loan through scheduled installment payments. In an amortized loan, early payments are primarily interest; later payments are primarily principal. Personal loans are typically fully amortized — the final payment brings the balance to exactly zero.
Origination Fee
A one-time fee charged by some lenders for processing the loan, typically expressed as a percentage of the loan amount (1%–8%). It may be deducted from loan proceeds or added to the principal. Origination fees are included in the APR calculation.
Debt-to-Income Ratio (DTI)
Your total monthly debt payments divided by your gross monthly income, expressed as a percentage. Most lenders prefer a DTI below 40% (including the new loan payment). A high DTI is a common reason for loan denial even when credit scores are strong.
Hard Inquiry
A credit check triggered by a formal loan application that is visible to other lenders and temporarily reduces your credit score by 5–10 points. Remains on your credit report for two years, though scoring impact diminishes after 12 months.
Soft Inquiry
A credit check used for pre-qualification or rate-checking that has no impact on your credit score and is not visible to other lenders. Post Lake Lending uses only soft inquiries during the matching phase.
Unsecured Loan
A loan that does not require collateral. Personal loans through Post Lake Lending's network are unsecured. The lender cannot automatically seize an asset upon default — though they retain legal recourse through collections and civil action.
Prepayment Penalty
A fee charged by some lenders if you pay off your loan ahead of schedule. Most personal loans do not carry prepayment penalties, but it's worth confirming in your loan agreement before making extra payments.
Truth in Lending Act (TILA)
Federal law requiring lenders to disclose the APR, total finance charge, total payment amount, and repayment schedule in writing before a borrower signs a loan agreement. All lenders in our network are required to comply with TILA disclosures.
More Questions

Additional Questions Answered

How does a personal loan affect my credit score?

A personal loan affects your credit score in several ways: a hard inquiry at application (minor temporary dip), a new account that slightly reduces average credit age, a potential improvement in credit mix if you previously had only revolving credit, and ongoing positive payment history building if you make on-time payments. For most borrowers, a well-managed personal loan has a net neutral-to-positive long-term credit impact.

Can I apply for a loan if I'm currently unemployed?

Some lenders accept unemployment benefits, disability income, Social Security, or other government assistance as verifiable income. We encourage you to apply and see what's available — the matching process carries no credit impact. Income verification requirements vary by lender.

What happens to my credit if I'm denied?

The Post Lake Lending matching process itself uses only soft inquiries — no credit score impact. If you proceed to a formal application with a specific lender and they deny you after placing a hard inquiry, your score may dip 5–10 points, but the denial itself doesn't appear on your report. Only the inquiry is recorded.

Is there a maximum number of personal loans I can have at once?

There is no universal rule limiting the number of personal loans a borrower can carry simultaneously. What matters is your debt-to-income ratio and ability to meet payment obligations. Having multiple existing installment loans may affect lender approval decisions and the rate you're offered on a new application.

How long does it take to pay off a personal loan?

Repayment terms through our network range from 3 to 60 months depending on the loan amount and lender. You can accelerate payoff by making extra principal payments. Most loans in our network have no prepayment penalty, so paying off early saves interest without additional cost.
